$HOW ME THE MONEY!

There’s one colour that never fails to make you look expensive.

Contrary to popular belief, it isn’t black and it’s ability to add allure and slim you down; or red, which adds classic appeal.

WhoWhatWear reports that camel is one colour that looks good on every skin tone, and adds true luxe to any look. But let’s break down exactly how YOU should wear camel this season:

SKIN TONE

Camel items generally come in three tones: pink, brown and yellow. Choosing the right tone for your skin has a huge impact on your overall complexion. To enhance your natural highlight, warmer skinned individuals should choose camel garments with a yellow tone, whilst cooler toned women should choose a camel garment or accessory with a pink or quartz tone.

STYLING CAMEL

Styling camel is easy. almost any garment and accessory features camel. This week’s post heroes camel in three different looks – corporate, cocktail and casual (but by now, you should know that our casual looks still pack a huge punch! )

BREAKING THROUGH YOUR INTERVIEW (PART 2)

Loading Likes...

Part of developing a good aesthetic is also maintaining a strong budget. It isn’t always about the money. What you have in your pocket today isn’t the only driver when considering your corporate wardrobe.

It’s unreasonable to be expected to shell out hundreds of dollars on a corporate wardrobe, especially if your vibe is styling on trend items. We have three main tips to think about when looking at how you budget for a corporate wardrobe:

LOOKS UNDER $100

If you’re looking to spend under $100, invest in quality basics like a black pencil skirt from retailers such as Uniqlo or Target. H&M is a great option for blouses or trend items, and also stocks a variety of blazers throughout the year. For bags, look out for stores such as Colette and Strandbags. Online retailers such as ASOS are ideal for shoes, and it doesn’t hurt to venture into factory outlets either. Remember, style doesn’t mean the latest season or the highest brand.

LOOKS UNDER $300

If you’re looking to spend a little more, invest in garments that you can dress up or down depending on the garment. Buying a quality tailored dress from Review with belt loops or an asymetric neckline in a classic cut is ideal. Changing up the belt you thread through, or adding a pop of colour with a fresh coat of lipstick will immediately enhance your look.

Stores such as Portmans, Forcast and Jacqui-E are reliable for everything corporate. Zara will provide trendier items, and stores like Oxford and Brooks Brothers will always supply quality shirts, blazers and jackets. As for shoes and accessories, look or brands such as JAG, Cellini, Nine West and Wittner for quality leather goods that won’t break the bank.

LOOKS UNDER $500

For a larger budget, our advice is to invest in accessories rather than clothes. Do your research and find a quality, high end bag or pair of shoes that will carry you through numerous seasons. Brands we gravitate toward are Fendi, Escada, Prada, Fossil and Gucci.

However, if your heart is set on a high end corporate wardrobe, designers from Cue, David Lawrence or boutique Australian made designers will always provide unique, quality garments.

OTHER THINGS TO CONSIDER:

TIP 1: research

There are always sales, either online or in-store. Do your research and know your market so you aren’t beat out when the time comes to purchase new items for your corporate closet.

TIP 2: teeth and skin

A clean smile and fresh breath are another accessory to consider. Invest in a quality lip balm, which will prevent cracking and add a little shine to your lips. Even if makeup isn’t your thing, there’s no time like the present to learn how to maintain a neat base. Work with concealer and a setting powder to ensure your skin is even, fresh and glowy. Using a settling powder will also protect against any nervous sweat appearing on your t-zone or upper lip.

TIP 3: posture

You could wear a $1,000 ensemble but still fail to look put together. Standing straight and emulating confidence is key. People notice everything, so ensure your walk, talk and handshake are firm and confident. Engage in good conversation and don’t forget to smile and stand proud. Getting an interview is a huge success!

OUTFIT INSPIRATION

This week’s ensemble is a challenge to create a look under $100. We didn’t quite manage to incorporate a bag, but adding it all up, our look cost $84 all together!

LACE-D UP

Loading Likes...

Lace is timeless. Lace tops are a staple in every woman’s wardrobe, regardless of season. Today, I want to show you how to take an elegant, white lace top and style it from day to night, from a corporate setting to a formal dinner; by changing one element in each look – the bottoms you choose.

For women who have more pear shaped figures, I want to show you how you can accentuate your figure, boost your confidence, and remain comfortable and chic all day.

This lace top is the perfect amalgamation of sexy and classic. The mock neckline gives the top a Parisian feel, and the sheer detailing on the bust provides a bit of edge to a feminine piece. The top sits perfectly on any body shape, as it has a forgiving silhouette without taking away the attention of any curves.

I paired simple silver accessories to keep the look corporate, casual and night time appropriate. The addition of NARS velvet lip pencil in “DRAGON LADY” is the perfect accompaniment. Wearing a velvet lip pencil is ideal because you can work the colour to your desired brightness. For work and day time events, blend out a thinner application to keep the colour subtle. In the night, go all out with a bold application.

For me, a braided up do is the perfect transitional hairstyle. A braided headband wrapped around a messy dutch braided bun is feminine, stylish and gives personality.

these looks have been styled by Salonee Goyal, and curated by Simran Goyal

LOOK ONE: TAILORED, STRAIGHT LEG TROUSERS

black trousers.jpg

Trousers are a comfortable option for a corporate setting. For curvier women with longer torsos, the key is to elongate and slim the thighs. Choosing a straight leg trouser and tucking in the lace top gives the illusion of longer, slimmer legs. The belt cinches in your waist to promote your beautiful figure.

For women who have straighter builds or shorter torsos, forgo tucking in the top. A skinner work trouser such as this trouser is ideal for women who have thin legs.

LOOK TWO: BLUE DENIM SKIRT

blue denim skirt

White and blue are a classic combination for the warmer seasons. A subtle denim wash suits every skin tone. The a-line silhouette drapes over my form to accentuate my narrow waist without pinpointing my hips. Similar to look one, crisply tucking in the top is essential. This ensures your curves are not hidden.

A-line skirts are versatile for any figure. For straighter builds, loosely tucking in the top will give the illusion of a waist. The skirt should be situated no higher then waist level.

LOOK THREE: DARK WASH DENIM

jeans

Every woman loves a good pair of skinny jeans. This ensemble is comfortable and stylish for running any day time errands, whether it be groceries or brunch. A dark denim wash compliments the black pumps I’ve chosen for this look. Tucking in the lace top is optional. These jeans in particular are a favourite because the back pockets boast subtle diamond detailing, which ties in with the silver accessories I have chosen.

LOOK FOUR: BLACK, COTTON RIB PENCIL SKIRT

black pencil skirt copy

No closet is complete without a black, pencil skirt. This skirt is is the perfect piece to take from day to night, especially if you are heading out to an event after work. The cotton, rib material is comfortable, breathable and appropriate for either summer or winter. A crisp tuck is essential to draw the attention to the lace top, as this skirt is quite figure hugging.

For women with a straighter build or shorter torso, leave the top untucked.
